Japreet Singh Lehal (ਜਪਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਲੇਲ੍ਹ) is a lawyer who graduated with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law. Upon entering law school at Western University’s Faculty of Law, Japreet was awarded the Newton Rowell Entrance Scholarship. He completed his BA (with Distinction) and Certificate in Liberal Arts from Simon Fraser University and was recognized as a political science graduate with the highest CGPA.

Japreet is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the BC Secondary Simon Fraser Entrance Scholarship (full undergraduate scholarship), University of Toronto National Book Award and Governor General of Canada’s Academic Medal. At SFU, he was on the Dean’s and President’s Honour Roll for academic excellence, and was also inducted into the Golden Key Honours Society.

While articling at a large BC law firm, he gained experience in several areas of law, including civil litigation, employment law, administrative law, real estate, wills and estates, and tax law. After being called to the Bar, Japreet was involved in litigation-related work on high-profile legal cases, where his clients have included large national and international law firms. He also has experience in corporate law.

Japreet served as a student representative on SFU Community Trust’s Board of Directors and as a student senator. He is an experienced writer, as he was a newspaper columnist for more than five years. During his first year of law school, Japreet was a staff editor for the Western Journal of Legal Studies and was also involved in several mooting competitions.

Japreet was named as one of the Surrey Board of Trade’s Top 25 under 25 for his community volunteer work. He was the founder of an online platform, for which he was recognized as the Top 24 under 24 and Surrey Board of Trade’s Business Awards finalist. Japreet plays multiple instruments and is a singer-songwriter. He is also fully fluent in Punjabi, English, and Hindi, and can understand Urdu.
